Assignment 6

The setting is in an Oriental setting like China or Japan. The characterization of the film is displayed through the way the main character reacts to the situations she is facing. The internal conflict is her being forced to decide whether she will do what she has a deep passion for, despite her “disability”, or if she will give up like, what seems to her, the rest of the world wants her to. The external conflict occurs when the boy breaks her violin. To me, that is a symbol of her feeling that her dreams had been shattered. The protagonist is the main character. The antagonist is, actually, everyone else, but mostly we see it focus on her sister/best friend. It’s ironic that in the end the sister of the main character, that has put her down through it all, ends up feeling like the one who’s inadequate. The climax is when her violin gets broken. The theme is not to let anyone tell you that you can’t accomplish your dream.

Assignment-3/10/09

I think he makes a pretty Hamlet!

Don’t the couple look SO cute!! They actually look in love!

Drink, evil Claudius!!!!http://www.cinemedioevo.net/Film/cine_hamlet_prince.htm

A man named John Simon critiqued this version of Hamlet where Michael Stuhlbarg  played the leading role. In this “critique”, Simon tells of how bad the play really was. In my opinion, the play really probably deserved this harsh review from what I’ve read of it. He says at one point Hamlet throws his own mother into the bed to do…(you know what), making they’re opinion of the play being very incestuous quite obvious.  http://www.broadway.tv/blog/broadway-magazine/broadway-critics-review-public-shakespeares-hamlet/

Assignment 5

This is a superstition about the day of the week a child is born.

Monday’s child is fair of face;
Tuesday’s child is full of grace;
Wednesday’s child is full of woe;
Thursday’s child has far to go;
Friday’s child is loving and giving;
Saturday’s child works hard for a living.
But the child that is born on the Sabbath day
is fair and wise, good and gay.

Assignment 5

An ideal Rennaissance man is defined as one who is educated and experienced in many fields. In my opinion, this is not secluded to one who is very well educated, such as one from a University or such, but one who excels in a certain field. Motherhood is not considered something that you would have to have a lot of education for, but you can excel in it. This profession, however, does require skill and wisdom to use the knowlege you are given for a specific purpose. I would consider it a specific field of study because you CAN excel in it. Family, work, and others such as this would probably not normally be considered when thinking about a Renaissance man but in every day normal life, these are things needed to survive and others surpass the standards for these things making them stand out. The person I think is a good example of a Renaissance man is my future grandfather-in-law. He is a man of many talents. He loves God with a passion, he shows a care for his family like a great father should, he works very hard to better himself and to provide for his family, he has compassion for others and loves to help in any way that he can. He is the American man and, in my opinion, THAT is a Renaissance man. Not one who is ultimate in great things but, instead, is great in the ultimate things. The things that matter most to a person in life-love, compassion, passion,etc.-are what make a person a Renaissance man.

Assignment 4

The lyre bird is very interesting! It’s amazing what God’s creations reveal about Himself! The little blessings that He’s given us to appreciate here on earth give a slight glimpse into Heaven. I love that the lyre bird is so complex and interesting! I hate it, though, that the human civilization influences this beautiful creature to take away from it’s natural habitat! I guess you could say I’m kind of a fan of natural beauty because that’s how God made us.

Assignment 3

I actually only had 3 people classified correctly! Pandabear18 made the comment in class that I’M the one that’s not supposed to classify people because I’m going to marry a preacher. That’s probably why! But, honestly, in reality we’re ALL not supposed to judge. It goes against Christian moral values as well as the Constitution. The entire foundation of America is based on Christian values and what the Bible says. Whether you believe now or not, the only source of our more important documents that base our Judicial system, laws, and such, is the Bible. People can look back in history and see how powerful a nation we once were and how miraculously we won battles, even when the odds were against us! But, then it brings us back to the question that is beginning to run our socity today: Why? Why were we more powerful then than now? Well, what have we lost a lot of? We’ve lost the base of our society to liberalism. You have to have some kind of order or the world would go crazy. Our base kept us strong then, why can’t it now? Christianity is the belief. God is the power. So, I have to say that this assignment just goes to prove the point that it’s not up to us to judge. There’ s a higher power that knows us better than we do and we should leave it up to Him.

Assignment 2!

The media tries to play up the “perfect” body image. But, in truth, there is no such thing. And who has the right to judge and say “Now he/she has the perfect body!!”, anyway? God created us the way we are for a reason and it’s our job to take care of it and not destroy it with our eating habits and drinking habits or any other habits that are harmful to our bodies! And as the old saying goes “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. Some people are attracted to larger women with “table-top” booties and a very round waist; others are attracted to thinner women even if it means them having unhealthy eating disorders. Everyone has the ideal image of their dream guy or girl but in truth it will always only exist in our heads. People are of the human race and, as such, are subject to imperfection because the only perfect man to walk the earth was Jesus and He has been gone for quite a while! We do have to accept people for their good qualities as well as their bad ones. God’s very first commandment in the Bible is to love. How do you expect to get anywhere without it? If there was no love then there would be no point in living. God created us in love and gave us the power to do so, too, and made it part of the reason of our existence. Even one who does not believe could agree that love is a major part of living whether it is for a person, place, thing, or idea. It keeps us going.

As for any “perfection”…there is no such thing. But, we are still supposed to strive for it. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “If you shoot for nothing you’ll hit it every time, shoot for the moon and you’re sure to land on a star”. Would it not be better to land on a star of imperfection than nothing at all? All it takes to try to be perfect is just that to try to be perfect. If no one else likes you when you’re doing the best you can do, then God still does and He’s the only one that matters any way. But, I can almost guarantee that someone in this vast world will be on the same level in imperfection as you. So, as long as you’re trying the best you can that’s what really counts. And if it’s not what the media says is “right”, it doesn’t mean that you are wrong. It means that THAT is THEIR opinion. There is some good media out there about self image and “perfection” but the typical media portrayal is negative in the fact that it insists upon change. Not all change is bad but the media gives a positive light to change even if it’s unhealthy to you which is what I have a problem with.

The Class Blog

I’ve never used a blog before but I am looking forward to it! It seems like it will be a good way to stay connected to and see what my other classmates think of the assignments!
